Low Impact Development (LID & SUSMP)
Infrequent rain showers tend to transfer harmful chemicals into rivers and the ocean from polluted urban runoff. Ocean animals and public health are harmed by pollutants such as trash, bacteria, oil, poisonous metals, and more. To reduce the negative effects of climate change, low-impact development and a standard urban mitigation plan are two options. LID/SUSMP is a state mandate. Land planning and engineering approaches to managing stormwater runoff as part of green infrastructure are known as “green stormwater management.” To improve the quality of rainwater discharge, LID wants to use Best Management Practices (BMP’s). LID provides numerous advantages, including safeguarding aquatic animal habitats, reducing impermeable surfaces for groundwater replenishment, and enhancing the management of runoff and flooding.
